Our two-year old learnt to talk this spring, just in time to welcome the new lambs to the farm. Baby baa-baas, naturally enough. They've gone now, first to market then on to the dinner tables of other families across the Middle East in time for the feasts of Big Eid. Now the cattle have ambled their way to lower pastures too, and in the evenings, from up on the moor we hear the bellowing of horny stags. Otherworldly, and moving. No frost yet, and the leaves are holding tight, at least until the big storm of the new season. The land is talking, telling us it's changed.
