A Playlist by Eilidh McDonald.
Eilidh is the Deputy Creative Director at Frame in Glasgow. She says 'You may have noticed that I’m heavily into Electronic music. Of all sorts. I just find forboding synths and distorted, wet-sounding bleeps and bloops kinda irresistible (I trace this to discovering Daft Punk at a formative age on holiday in France in 1994: at a time when it seemed like all other music was a derivation of either Oasis or Blur, The Punk blew my tiny wee mind). But I need a vocal too for the proper goosebumps. I love haunting female singers like Jessie Ware, Grimes, Banks and her fae London Grammar, but a vocoder works too. Basically, I like anything that makes me feel a wee bit nostalgic and slightly breathless, like I might start crying. But it’s not all electronica. I surprise myself sometimes by falling in love with something folk-rocky (e.g. Haim - Don’t save me) or R&B-y (e.g. Drake - just hold on we’re going home) or hip hoppy (Mos Def - Quiet dog bite hard) or poppy (Pharrell - Happy). I’m also no music snob: I ain’t ashamed to admit I’ve got a bit of Beyonce (1+1, Flawless) and Justin Bieber (Sorry (not sorry)) in my iTunes. Most of my music is fairly recent too. I like that working in advertising means I know what all the cool kids are listening to, but it does mean I bore easily, I rarely buy albums, and I don’t often return to old tunes once I’ve listened to them several hundred times. It also means that choosing in-car music is rather difficult when my man is all Led Zep CDs and I’m all like ‘WHY DOES THIS THING NOT HAVE A DAMN IPOD PORT?”. Le sigh.
Anyway, here are my favourite bleeps. Hope you enjoy.'
